Ancient World History & English, Grade 6

$550 per semester

The goal of this once-a-week course is for students to sharpen their reading comprehension, literary analysis, critical thinking, and rhetorical writing skills through studying ancient civilizations and their literature. We will be reading historical accounts, myths, and epic poetry from Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, the Americas, and Greece including excerpts from The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Odyssey, and other ancient texts and oral myths. Students will be introduced to key historical and literary analysis terms and tools throughout the course. Students will learn to analyze major themes and ideas in these works, drawing connections to the real world through discussions, writing assignments, and creative projects. They will also practice their writing skills through narrative, expository, and persuasive essays, along with peer reviews to enhance their editing process.

United States History & English, Grade 8

Hip-Hop & Jazz Dance, Grades 6-8

$325 per semester

The goal of this one day a week course is for students to express themselves through movement. Students will learn how to care for their bodies through healthy stretching and warm up every class period. Students will also learn basic jazz and hip hop moves that are well known and used in the dance community. Throughout the semester the students will learn a specific routine to a song and be able to perform at the end of the year.

Geography & Culture, Grades 6-8, 9-12

$350 per semester

The goal of this one a week course is for students to have a comprehensive introduction to the diverse cultures, landscapes, and peoples of our world. We will be covering topics such as physical geography, human geography, climate patterns, cultural traditions, and global interactions. Students will be exposed to cartography skills, writings, foods, and practices of other cultures, and spatial thinking. Throughout the course students will be expected to participate in Interactive projects, case studies, reading, activities, and some homework lessons.

The goal of this once a week course is for students to sharpen their reading comprehension, fluency, literary interpretation, literary analysis, and rhetorical writing skills through studying classic literature (like The Diary of a Young Girl, Romeo and Juliet, The Odyssey, Gulliver’s Travels, and other classics). Students will be exposed to literary interpretation and analysis terms and tools through the study of these texts. Throughout the course students will learn to analyze main ideas and draw connections from literature to real life through discussion, rhetorical writing, and projects. Students will also be able to practice their writing skills and the editing process through various literary analysis essays and peer reviews.

Classical Literature & Humanities, Grade 9

Overview of the Bible, Grades 6-12

This two day a week course will be an overview of the entire Biblical narrative from Genesis to Revelation. Students will become familiar with the meta-narrative of Scripture and how Christ has fulfilled the Law and Prophets. Students will also learn hermeneutic skills and how to interact with the Bible in a discussion and discovery base model.

This course can be a myriad of things depending on student interest. Ms. E recommends that students first take the Overview of the Bible course before taking this course. Here students will learn basic hermeneutic tools for Biblical interpretation. Students will also learn the process of systematic theology and historical theology and it’s importance in understanding the literary aspects of the Bible.

The goal of this two-day per week class is for students to explore in depth the life and works of William Shakespeare. Students will learn about the England of Shakespeare’s time, examining the cultural, social, and historical contexts that influenced his writing. Through Reader’s Theater-style sessions, students will study excerpts from Shakespeare’s plays, focusing on his unique use of language, poetic techniques, and dramatic structures. Students will also read and analyze one of Shakespeare’s works as homework, engaging in class discussions to interpret the story line, explore the themes, and apply them to contemporary issues.

The Life & Works of Shakespeare, Grades 9-12

Logic & Critical Thinking, Grades 6-9

The goal of this two-day a week course is for students to develop the ability to analyze and evaluate the views they come across and strengthen their own ability to logically reason. Students will learn to exercise various strategies for hearing, analyzing, and spotting fallacies in arguments. Our course will be going through our textbook Fallacy Detective and having in class activities and discussions to apply the concepts to real world situations. Students will be expected to do some reading, participate in class discussions, and be prepared to have fun learning and failing forward.

The Bible as Literature, Grades 6-8, 9-12

The goal of this two-day a week course is for students to examine the Bible through the lens of ancient literature and art. Students will learn to analyze the narrative techniques, genres, symbolism, themes, and diverse literary genre forms, such as poetry, historical narrative, and wisdom literature, of the Bible. Students will explore how these literary elements contribute to the text’s enduring significance. By studying the Bible in its historical and cultural context, students will gain insight into how the people of its time understood and interpreted its messages within their own traditions. This course emphasizes a thoughtful and scholarly approach, encouraging students to appreciate the Bible’s literary richness and its impact on literature and culture throughout history.

The goal of this two-day a week course is to equip students with essential study skills that foster academic success and personal growth. Students will learn various effective strategies for time management, note-taking, test preparation, and personal organization. This course will cover techniques for setting goals, staying motivated, and managing stress. Students will spend class time participating in activities, group discussions, and practical exercises that will help them develop a personalized toolkit of skills that can be applied across all subjects.
